What market should I be in?
Skillfair has 3 markets, Business, IT and Technology - the markets are centred around the skills offered by consultants rather than the nature of the client business.
The Business market is the place to look for projects relating to running or managing a business or organisation. Major disciplines covered include Finance, Marketing, Management, Public Relations, Human Resources, Facilities and Purchasing. Some clients are small businesses that need help with a business plan, marketing strategy, others are larger concerns who need very specific expertise in a particular industry or discipline. Public tenders in the Business market range from major change management programmes through to short feasibility studies and project evaluations.
If you supply IT services, with or without a software or hardware element, then the IT market will provide you with interesting opportunities. Small business clients may need help with PC or network support and we are regularly asked to help find project managers, developers, analysts and senior IT staff for major clients. There are also opportunities for system audits, due diligence and shorter assignments. Public sector projects in this area range from the implementation of major IT systems to requests for help with web design, security and specialist training.
Having covered the running of a business and it's supporting IT, what remains is the design, manufacture, construction and management of a company's products and services. projects in our Technology market include requests for engineers, scientists, and technologists to assist with developing new products, refining manufacturing or distribution processes and advising on issues such as environmental impact and sustainability.
Standard consultant membership of Skillfair includes a profile on 1 market only, but you can access projects from any market. If your skills or company cover a range of areas then you can buy extra profiles for £25 each when you join. This allows you to adjust your profile to fit the kind of expertise clients are looking for in each market.
