Tweeting on our members behalf

As well as setting up the Skillfair group on LinkedIn over the last few months, we've also been experimenting with Twitter - although I'm not following Stephen Fry! I'm still not sure how useful it is as a business tool, there seems to be quite a divide between those who tweet occasionally and interestingly and those who seem to want to tell the world every last detail of their lives.

Like so many websites Twitter is quite addictive and its easy to spend a lot of time browsing through the undergrowth - not the most useful thing to do if you have a client project to complete. Fortunately we've been able to set up some automatic feeds that mean any news, articles or members offers that appear on the Skillfair website also get tweeted at http://twitter.com/skillfair. We've also set it up to tweet when members join or renew, essentially this is performing the same function as our weekly new consultants email but using a different platform.

The tweets are tagged with some of your skills so if anyone is searching for #marketing or #mechanicalengineering, for example, you'll come up on their screen. If you've just joined or renewed, don't worry, we've set the feed up so everyone will get tweeted at least once over the next few months.

As usual here is my personal and rather eclectic selection from the week's projects - if none of these appeal why not have a browse around to see what else is available.

We have added a number of features to Skillfair recently so I thought it would be worth just reminding you what you get as a member;

  • Google searchable profile & link to your website
  • daily email alerts of projects and tenders matched to your skills
  • personalised RSS feed of projects and tenders
  • profile on our Google map of consultants
  • ability to publicise special offers and events to 10,000 consultants
  • ability to post projects to find associates or bid partners
  • discount on the Skillfair conference
  • membership of LinkedIn group
  • inclusion in new consultants email (and now Tweets)
Many of these features rely on you entering a full profile to make the best use of them so its worth checking from time to that your profile is up to date and has the correct details, such as web site, postcode and so on.
