Remembering passwords and remember me

Most browsers now have a facility that recognises username and password fields and automatically fills them for you to save typing.

This is not the same as the 'Remember Me' function that we've added to the new version of Skillfair. Remember me is designed to keep you logged onto Skillfair if you request it so that if you close your browser and then re-open it you don't need to re-enter you details. This doesn't yet work 100% because some parts of the site have yet to be completely re-written - we aim to have it working fully in the next few months.

Getting your browser to remember a password should be very easy - in fact most do this by default and the facility has to be turned off if you don't like it. However ... in practice, particularly with the various versions of Internet Explorer - there are numerous different settings that in combination can prevent things from working smoothly.

If you're having problems getting websites to auto-fill your username and password then you'll find a variety of suggestions available if you enter 'browser name remember password' into Google. For example;

IE 7
IE 8
Firefox
Chrome
Safari

If you're on Internet Explorer version 6 we strongly recommend you upgrade to a more recent version as many sites are starting to drop support for this.

If all else fails, try removing and re-installing your browser software to start from scratch!
