This project will assess the impact of developments in the wider economy, including recent turbulence in the financial sector and resulting credit crunch, along with commodity price and exchange rate volatility, in the medium and longer term. Part of the work should cover looking at the attitudes, current practices and intentions of key interest groups (most importantly but not exclusively) farmers in England.
The research will then consider the possible environmental impacts and farm business performance / resilience impacts of any changes. Environmental impacts would cover biodiversity, resource protection, including water and air quality, greenhouse gas emissions and landscape features.
It is suggested that this project could combine a limited desk-based review of very recent intelligence and some primary investigative research to gather robust insight.
